What happens on a typical first visit ?

Your details and medical history (any previous operations, medication you are taking, any health problems) will be taken and we will explore your immediate reason for your visit. We will ask what your symptoms are and when they began.

You will then be examined and we will run through various procedures to make an assessment of how best to treat you. At this stage we rule out any unusual symptoms, which would make treatment unsuitable. If this is the case you will be referred back to your GP.

Do I have to remove clothing ?

We are very sensitive to patient's modesty and provide towels. There is absolutely no need for you to be fully exposed during treatment. We want our patients to be relaxed, not self-conscious.

Treatments can usually take place wearing loose clothing ; a T-shirt and track suit bottoms are ideal.

bullet

Is it painful ?

Treatment should not involve any pain. There may be a reaction to treatment for 24 to 36 hours as the tissues adapt. There is often an increase in blood flow through the tissue and this may cause some discomfort. This is similar to post exercise stiffness.

Do I need a follow up appointment ?

The majority of conditions settle quickly. It is prudent to follow a course of treatment. Once you have recovered you may be happy to leave it be - or you may wish to return at a later date for a "Top Up" - especially if the problem has been long standing.

bullet

How long will the treatment take ?

There can be no exact prognosis. It depends entirely on the severity of the condition.

bullet

What happens if I can't make an appointment ?

Please try to give 24 hours notice. We understand that there may be circumstances outwith your control, but please be aware that repeat cancellations may result in a £25 cancellation fee. This is entirely discretionary.

However, this does not mean that if you miss an appointment that a cancellation fee will be levied automatically.

I can't see the pop-ups when I click on the pain sites.

Firstly, do you have a flash player installed? If you don't or have an older version of flash, click here to download a free copy.

If you have an up to date copy of flash, but still can't see the pop-ups, your browser may be set to prevent them.

If you are using Firefox, you can allow pop-ups to appear for this site only, by going to Firefox Preferences in the menu bar > Content > Block pop-up windows and click on the Exceptions button. Type in www.glasgowosteopath.com and click allow. (It will only allow pop-ups for this site, so you won't be getting unwanted ad pop-ups when you view other sites.

If you are using Safari, go to Safari > Preferences > Security and uncheck Block pop-up windows. (Or go to Safari in menu bar and uncheck Block pop-up windows. You can re-check this once you leave the site.)

In Internet Explorer when you log into the website, you may see the Information Bar which is a pale yellow bar just above the web page content and below the toolbars. This bar may warn you that a pop-up has been blocked. Click on this bar and choose 'Always Allow Pop-ups from This Site' to configure IE to allow pop-ups. To check your pop-up settings manually:
Click Tools > Internet Options.
Click the Privacy tab at the top of the window and then the Settings button at the bottom of the Pop-up Blocker section.
Make sure www.glasgowosteopath.com is in the allowed sites list. If it is not:
Enter www.glasgowosteopath.com in the Address of Web site to allow box.
Click the Add button.
Click Close and then OK to go back to the Internet Explorer main window.
